43. Surprise! A Gift For You

This is a story about the middle.

We celebrate new beginnings, and we applaud satisfying endings, but too often we forget about the middle. Or, worse, we rush on by determined to get to the "good stuff."

But Lisa-Jo has a brand new book coming out in LESS THAN ONE WEEK (!!), and it is a joyous standing ovation for life's many messy middles.

This week on the Out of the Ordinary podcast, we are giving our listeners a special gift: a chance to hear a few favorite essays from The Middle Matters in Lisa-Jo's own voice.

What kind of middle are you living today? Is there some treasure hidden in the midst of it?  We'd love to hear more!  Just share a photo on instagram and tag @lisajobaker and @christiepurifoy

Great book!! Thanks for writing about the middle of life. My middle was a combo of work & aging parents. The younger me said “I will never have a a muffin top & always have lots of energy.” Surprise! I’ve awakened to a squishy middle & a brand new part-time job in a completely different environment (hospital). Life can be hard at times. March 2037 my aging dad died. I thought I was through with aging parents for a while. It had been 10 years of hospitals, rehab, doctor visits, assisted living, hospice, home health, etc. Fast forward a few months. Thanksgiving week that year both my in-laws were in the hospital. Now I’m helping hubby with his parents. Love this: “I fit into myself more now than ever”. I’m proud of who I’ve become-the shape of my body & the color of my hair. I’ve earned all this. Yes-God loves me not due to shape of body, weight, etc. Just because of whose I am.

This book is chock full of great essays & quotes!!

Thanks again for a great/awesome book!!

    Blessings 🙂

I’m finding opportunities to extend grace all the way from my elderly mum and in laws down to my baby who is ten. Sometimes I want to crawl away for “me time” but I’m reminded that usefulness is a gift and dying to self is a key to experiencing gospel joy! It’s also good to laugh along the way and your podcast reminds me of that. Thanks!
